Japanese “politeness”

The Japanese regard “politeness” as an important aspect of almost every interaction they pursue. Yet, the way they demonstrate this politeness can differ considerably from our understanding of the concept.

The uniqueness lies in the background to their politeness, an inherent aspect of an island country in East Asia, where a strong sense of ‘we’ transcends the individual, and group harmony with reciprocal respect for the hierarchal structure prevails.

The “golden rule” is to be aware of those characteristics and try to understand their underling cultural values.

Cultivating relations

Knowing how the Japanese think is important for fostering mutual understanding, making it easier for you to adjust and choose your approach in cultivating good working relations – relations that naturally pave the way for strong cooperation.

Acting on the basis of mutual “giving and receiving” allows your relationship to develop, encouraging positive networking and subsequently opening more doors for you.

Challenge for opportunity

When you face a challenging situation, your understanding of the Japanese mind-set and the good relations you have built up will help you find a positive way forward; a Kaizen perspective – enabling you to improve.

Taking this approach creates the impetus for positive moves, allowing you to turn challenges into opportunities to reinforce the trust you have with your Japanese partners and continually develop your cooperation for an ever stronger and long-lasting relationship.

Navigation philosophy

The navigation guidance we apply in coaching and consulting draws on self-reflection, empathy and openness to change, as captured by the Kaizen perspective.

The ability to accommodate the needs of both parties in a fair manner is also crucial to fostering good cooperation. We practice these aspects comprehensively throughout my coaching and consulting.

The cooperation development process works hand in hand with your personalgrowth.
